Gradall Forklift Parts - During the period when World War II caused a shortage of laborers, the well-known Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted workforce because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing laborers so as to carry out the delicate work of grading and finishing on their freeway projects. The Ferwerda brothers decided to make an equipment which would save their business by making the slope grading task easier, more efficient and less manual.
Their very first design model was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform which was attached atop a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth that enabled the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Soon enhancing the first design, the brothers made a triangular boom so as to add more strength. Also, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the equipment to be equipped with either a bucket or a blade attachment.
Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their equipment ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver comparable power and high productivity to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems effectively handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity work.
Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to lift and dig materials. With this series, the models were made together with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics that showed distinct improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators utilize an operator to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the work at hand. This makes the operator's whole task easier and likewise conserves fuel at the same time.
As soon as their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of equipment meant to tackle excavation, demolition, pavement removal and different industrial jobs. Marketability was further enhanced with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
